THE TRIP

The six-night cycling camp brings together a group of keen amateur cyclists looking to explore this iconic cycling region and improve their cycling form staying and riding at altitude. You’ll be discovering not only the area’s most famous routes and climbs including Tour de France favourites like Alpe d’Huez legendary 21 hairpins but also hidden gems that we tried and tested. The main focus is on flexibility to allow riders of all levels to enjoy the area at their own pace.

Choose whether to drive down to the Alps from the UK with all your kit or fly with (or without) your bike.

You’ll be staying in either 5-star apartments with superb facilities including indoor pool, spa, fitness and on-site mini-supermarket; or in a 4-star hotel on B&B basis.

An optional evening meal plan is available at a local restaurant where you will be able to join fellow riders and enjoy camaraderie and share your cycling discoveries of the day.

You will be doing mostly mountain riding so a decent fitness is needed but as this is not a fully guided trip most levels of riders will be accommodated. Whether you want to chase KOMs or ride at easy pace and just enjoy the incredible scenery, you will have the opportunity to ride at your own pace, independently, with your friends or in groups of similar levels.

THE altitude cycling camp
ALPE D’HUEZ
Inspired by pro cycling teams now ubiquitous pre-season altitude camps, Epic21 is a week of mountain cycling around legendary Alpe d’Huez. Staying at Alpe d’Huez itself for the ultimate altitude benefit for all levels of cyclists.
The Tour de France famous 21 hairpins of Alpe d’Huez will of course be included in the routes to discover in the immediate area but only forms a very small part of what there is to discover during the week.
From other legendary Tour de France climbs such as the Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Glandon, Col de Sarenne, Col du Galibier, Col du Lautaret to totally hidden gems such as Oulles, Col du Sabot, La Berarde, La Maronne the week will give you the opportunity to ride varied itineraries for all level of cyclists who enjoy a bit of gradient back at home.
One of the challenges to aim for for participants will be to achieve an “everesting” – or 8,848 metres of elevation over the six days of the trip, although this is not a must do.

The Location
You’ll be based in Alpe d’Huez in Isère, the heart of France’s most iconic cycling region. The area is packed with legendary climbs, breathtaking scenery and routes made famous by the Tour de France – all waiting for you to explore at your own pace.
From the 21 switchbacks of Alpe d’Huez made famous in multiple Tour de France appearances to surrounding classics like the Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Glandon and the quieter ascent via the Col de Sarenne, this region offers some of the most memorable riding in Europe. Each day gives you the chance to discover a different route, take on a new climb, or simply enjoy the stunning mountain landscapes.
Our Founders have personally researched more than a dozen different itineraries suitable for various abilities, from easy(ish) to super challenging, and we’ll provide GPX files and notes so you can either ride independently and confidently or in small groups.

The trip costs from £569pp for 6 nights including airport transfer from Lyon, shared self-catered 5* accommodation in the heart of Alpe d'Huez with private bedroom & facilities, daily lift availability from the valley (Bourg d'Oisans) for rider & bike back to the accommodation, one trip/transfer for rider & bike to explore routes/climbs further away, suggested self-guided itineraries, and a cycling jersey.
